Councillor Kay Cutts MBE, Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “The new school is part of our priority to make Nottinghamshire a place people are proud to call home and where children and young people can go to good schools.

“We are already working on plans to deliver up to eight new schools across the county to provide more than 1,400 new primary and secondary school places, reflecting the pace of new home building programmes across our county, bringing new jobs and prosperity for people.

“Every child should have the opportunity to succeed and we intend to make sure they have and have the very best opportunities to set them forward for the future.”

The school, known as Hucknall Flying High Academy, will offer 210 places, with the option to extend this further to 315. Flying High Trust already have strong links to the area through the highly successful Hillside Primary & Nursery School, situated on Roberts Lane and are pleased to strengthen those ties further.

Head teacher, Karl Clowery said: “My whole approach to education focuses on ensuring children receive the very best education and are supported to be independent and with a lifelong love of learning. Our curriculum will be centred on enabling every child to fulfil their potential – based in creativity, enjoyment and a determination to be the best they can be.”

The academy is situated within the significant Harrier Park development of 900 new homes on the old Rolls Royce site, with its design taking inspiration from the surrounding listed buildings and heritage.
